Could I get an opinion here folks ?

I keep hearing how I should "write a book". Whatcha think? Would you buy this book? Really?? And if I were to write the book, assuming ol' Bill at "My Fare City" would throw a fit I'm thinking I could name it "Lady of the Night: Cab Stories from Ptld, OR" or something along those lines. Whatcha think?

And if anyone is interested ...

This is how I keep myself entertained while I'm between calls. These are my deposit envelopes for work.

I'm not too bad at this drawing thing, eh?! :o)

Edited to add: OK, yes, this is a self-portrait. Don't all cab drivers look like this?! They do in Portland. I kid you not. Every, single, good-looking, english-speaking one of us. Well, minus the bird of course, 'cuz, well, no animals in the cab unless they're service animals.

Dude, not only would I read your book, I'd fucking link it on my blog and encourage everyone I met to buy it. No, really, I would.

I think you could do very well with a book and a illustration page for each story as well.

By the way on our way through Portland we saw exactly 4 cabs but none women so we didn't wave to you. Have to hit you on the way back :)

Either write a book or design tattoos. I'd buy in either way.

I would buy your book, but the real question is, why are you not making a living with your illustrations? They are phenomenal!

I would buy your book in a heartbeat. You tell the real story of Portland, not the story that we read elsewhere, where everyone is cool and nice and rich and young. Your stories are always so gritty but funny. Some have me almost in tears they're so poignant. I think you've really got a talent...WAY more than a lot of ohter bloggers who have book contracts.

Go for it!

Use Lulu.com. Im actually publishing my book this week, and theyre really simple to use. Check it out, because I mean, self publishing is really the way to go from these blogs, you know?

You drew those? You didn't draw those... did you??

Oh my God, they're amazing pictures! I can only wish I had that kinda power at my fingertips.

Well, after you showed the sketch you did of the guy that mugged you, we KNEW that you were talented. But holy CATS woman, you're good! :D

"Lady of the Night: Driving Portland Crazy" hehehe YOu really ought to compile these stories. I would buy it. *nodnod*

New York Hack got a book deal and your stories are way better! She took pictures with her phone but the pictures rarely had to do with the stories and your drawings are so much better!!

If you devote a chapter to me in your book, I'll buy TWO copies! :-)

And it's pretty obvious to me that you should add illustrations to your book... that pirate is totally sweet!

girl, you can draw! excellent!

yes, you should write a book. Taxi cab Confessions is popular on HBO. I think your book would be an even bigger hit.

I'd buy your book.

Hope you'll include drawings in it.

You have seriously wicked talents.

Definitely a book. Definitely with drawings--preferably so you can see the whole deposit envelope, or enough of it to get what the object is. Do you have lots of drawings of your fares & Portland, or mostly cartoons? Cartoons are *great*, but you want to have your take on your passengers in the book.

Layout is key, too: if you're not as ninja with a page layout program as you are storytelling & pix, partner with a good (no--GREAT) graphic designer. Trust me. Nothing will kill the beauty of your book faster than injudicious use of Comic Sans, Zapf and Papyrus. (Oh, wait--that's redundant.) And sh*tty use of white space. And the myriad other wrongs with most self-publishing.

I'd vote for Lulu, too. Maybe consider a free PDF download like Walt Taylor (http://www.lulu.com/content/764283), then when people see what a fetish object the book is (what with its beautiful layout and drawings accompanying them), they'll be more inclined to part with the dough.

Remember, lots of people *say* they will part with their dough, but when push comes to shove...

People will spread the word if they can read it for free. Then you have a better chance of more people who will part with a buck (or $20) to buy it.

That's the communicatrix's theory, anyway.

You should write a book, you have more than enough material for it and it would be hilarious. And self illustrating it would be perfect to...you're very good at the drawing thing ;)

Yep; write the book AND illustrate it. I'll buy it.

Avoiding copyright infringement is always a good idea. Even I would buy a copy with the title "Lady of the Night: Cab Stories from Portland". Keep the sunny side up and the greasy side down. Email me if you have any questions about the process. As I told ya before, good content...etc http://www.budcarson.org
yes, its bud
